Hi!
I couldn't make sense of that thread, maybe i'm too stupid. Coincidently though, i do have a toshiba laptop that is more than 3 years old. Its a Satellite Pro A10 - Model No. PSA15E-01PFQ-EN. I saw the guy taking it apart so i know where the hard drive is and how to take it out.

Oh yeah, we couldn't get into the bios either. I had never tried to before, but according to the guy, its by pressing either F1 or F2 repeatedly i think.

Hey Germanio,

We have our user MadMatt to thank for this one,

And NO you are not stupid. That was a very complex thread, and it really didn't give you the answers you needed. Now that I have your info, (which I should have asked for ages ago. Duh on me. lol, we need a "Duh" smilie.) I can look up that error code and see if we can't get that CD player working.

Hi ladygreenwitch,
Thanks for that. I held esc and "Check system and then press F1" came up, so i pressed F1, and it brought me to SYSTEM SETUP. Is that what im looking for? On top right it says ACPI BIOS version = 1.30.
On the second page, teres a box "DRIVES 1/0" that goes like this

Built-in HDD = Primary IDE (1F0H/IRQ14)
CD-ROM = Secondary IDE (170H/IRQ15)

SO, I'm thinkin and theorizin, that if its IDE #1 Error, then would that not mean error with Built-In HDD? Or could they have switched? I'm probably not making much sense. I shall stop rambling now.

Oh Germanio,

I love it when you type in a brogue, lol.

Good job on your "theorizin" by the way, . However in this instance the built in would be 0 and the CD would be 1. So we know that the error code is indicating an inability to communicate with the CD player.

What is really great about this, is that your BIOS is indicating that the CD ROM is there. That's a plus.

Let's try this fix from Toshiba, and see if there is any change. Then we'll look into flashing your BIOS.

Secondary IDE Channel DMA setting

To ensure the Secondary IDE Channel DMA setting:

1
Click Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware
2 Click the icon in the left window pane.
The System Properties window appears
3Click the Hardare button
4 Click the Device Managerbutton
5 Click + to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
6 Double-click the Secondary IDE Channel.
The Secondary IDE Channel Properties window appears.
7 Click the Advanced Settings tab.
8 Look at Device 0. The current transfer mode should be Ultra DMA Mode 2. If it is not, select Ultra DMA Mode 2 from the pull-down menu and click OK
Looking forward to your reply

Hi again!
I`m not so sure that one will work ladygreenwitch , because i cant press start and go to the control panel because I cant boot (that being the main problem). Is there another way to do this?
