Default PC restarts instead of shut down

ok first of all i've been to tons of forums and asked for help, sure they were helpful and i was grateful for their response and replies but the solutions i've tried don't seem to work at all and i'm really annoyed rite now.....if somebody can fix this problem of mine i'll be ever so grateful.

So here's the problem, my PC works fine when i use it, nothing wrong only when i want to shut down my computer and it restarts everytime. The only way i can get it to shut down is by doing it manually, which is pressing the 'ON' button for a few seconds. PPL told me i have to go to 'My Computer', then 'Properties', then 'System' and choose 'Advanced' and enable the error report thing, which basically shows the blue screen of death with the errors on ur PC etc etc, wel i've tried that but it didn't show up at all, other ppl had similar problems to mine and i've read the stuff and their problem is that their PC automatically restarts, but mine doesn't do that so therefore my pc doesn't show any errors, only when i click Shut Down and it restarts instead so i don't know wat to do, plz help.

Hi there and welcome to the site!

Whilst it's not a preferred option to send our members to other sites straight away, there is a great resource here: Windows XP Shutdown Troubleshooter - let us know how you get on.
