Default Media Center problems.

What's up everybody. New guy on the block. I've got an intallation issue. Has anyone ever installed an OEM of Media Center Edition and been asked for the SP2 disc? It comes with three discs and none of them are SP2. Not only that, I can't do a dynamic update during installation and when I skip past the SP2 installation I have no Internet explorer to download updates. A catch 22. Can anybody help. I just bought this Shuttle XPC 64 bit and can't do anything with it.

Default Let me add.............

Here are the stats on the machine:

Shuttle XPC
1 GB pc3200
Athlon 64 3500

I thought I'd include that just in case the reason for no dynamic update is because there's no 64 bit generic driver for the network adapter.

Hi Yorikman,

My welcome to the forum as well. I want to clarify something before we start troubleshooting. You say that you are trying to install an OEM version of Windows Media Center on your PC, is this the OEM that came with this machine? Is this three disk OEM the Recovery set?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

I bought them separately. The only thing linking the two together is me. I'm thinking that once my SP2 disc arrives I'll be able to install it completely. I have a laptop as well and it had MCE on it. I had to get a recovery set for it and it also asks for SP2. I downloaded what I thought was the ISO image of SP2 from Microsoft and got a self-extracting (supposedly, but it didn't. LOL) version. I've been working crazy hours so I'm in no hurry right now. I'm still open to suggestions though.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Yorikman,

Still trying to make sure that the version of Media Center is just a copy of Media Center, not a recovery CD set. Let's stick to one PC at a time so we don't get confused with instructions. The laptop issue while relevant, is a seperate issue.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

I had the same problem, what you need to do when it asks for the SP2 disk is put Disk one back in the drive not disk three, once the system software is loaded, you need to go the the Microsoft website and download NET FRAMEWORKS 1.1 and run it,(Free). then install disk 3 (the update disk) and run setup on this disk, This then loads the MCE rollout 2 and all the updates. Hope that works for you.
