I wanted to know it it was possibile to open up a portable hard drive and get the hard drive out of it and connect it straight to the sata/pata, then install vista on it, if its possibile of corse, can I then make the hard drive portable again and trie to run Vista from it with USB connection? I just thought this wouldn't be such a bad idea.

You put the sata drive in the caddy and then hook the caddy chassis to the mobo yes.
You want to make this portable don't you?

I think wolfey misunderstood - what he linked to was an enclosure for a normal internal hard drive to make it USB compatible and external.
About your question im not sure - do you have the make and model number of the drive? And it is quite likely that opening it up would void your warranty. |

Well it is already portable, I want to make it internal just for the part ot install Vista on it then put it back togather as a portable and trie to run vista from it through USB. It is a Western Digital 400gb model # WD4000C032. That is why I wanted to know before hand, so that I don't take it out of warrenty and find out that it would not work.
