Default Start Menu -programs not added

Hi
I have Windows XP Home. I performed a recovery from the OEM disc (originally XP was preinstalled)
Now I have a problem with the start menu. I click on "start" and the two columns come up First column has my name at the top and a couple of programs that I have added myself. eg Mozilla, outlook express and a couple of programs that i use often. It does not add them automatically . I have the start menu set on "START MENU" I have ticked "list my most recently opened documents." Well this aint happening!! Nothing is added at all.
Second column has my pictures, my music, my computer, control panel, admin tools, printers etc.
This may all be vague if anyone understands this, could you help me to restore the start menu to how it should function.
Your help would be appreciated

Hi Snoopy,

The programs should go into Start -> All Programs (located on the bottom left collumn).
Only the frequent recently opened programs will appear underneath Firefox and Outlook Express.

Thanks for your quick response.
I have opened about 6 programs since my post about 15 minutes ago and nothing has appeared anywhere!
Perhaps I need to reset something? I give up!!

Hi snoopy - nah you shouldn't have to...

If you open the same program 20 times....it should appear in that list - give it a try.
