Default Burn to DVD Drive

We are running XP home and had to replace the DVD drive. We can burn files from with in the Nero Express and Adobe Photoshop Album programs and can read the burned disk through windows Explorer. When we try to add files through Windows Explorer with the drag and drop function we are able to place the files in the temp folder but cannot burn them to the CD disk. Windows does not recognize that there is a disk in the drive. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to correct this as we were able to use this method before we relpaced the drive.

Hello raymantle, and welcome to the forum
Did any software come with the drive that you installed? windows has drivers for most out of the box, but some drives come with burning software, did you install any additional burning programs?

Default Burn to DVD Drive

Re the software that came with the drive. Yes we installed the Nero Express, Nero Startsmart, and the DVD Producer programs.
We can write to the disk using Nero Express and read the burned files from Windows Explorer.
Tech Support at LG, the drive supplier, helped us trouble shoot the drive and their bundled software to the point where we could use the bundled software, but suggested that it the drag and drop problem may be a missing or corrupt file in Windows.

Well, that doesnt sound right cause you said you were able to use this method before installing the new drive. What burning software were you using before?

We were using the drag and drop from Windows Explorer. Highlighted a file in the right pane and draged it over the DVD drive in the left pane. This still works but when we try to burn the files to the disk in the DVD drive Windows says there is no disk in the drive.

Ok, so before you installed Nero you were using the burn feature in windows media player??? I dont use Nero anymore, so im not 100% sure, but some burning software disables the burn feature in WMP when you install it. Try opening WMP and see if you can burn with it at all. You may have to open Nero, and drag and drop directly to it.
