Default [Resolved] Start menu staying classic

Hi, I just formatted my comp and everything was fine. Once I restarted the XP start menu changed to "Classic" and I can't change it back.

So could this be some sort of corrupt windows install? Or is there just a simple fix

Thanks
Matt

P.S I'm using two monitors, that explains the extra bit to the pic

EDIT: Just got loads of errors about Windows files have to be replaced, looks like I will have to format again

Hi Cowburn199,

Welcome to The PCHF!
What you may have done is either changed the appearence of your windows. Sometimes if you adjust for "best perfomance" in the advanced tab of the computer properties it does this automatically.
Try right click on the desktop, go to the "appearence" tab and make sure that in the "windows and buttons" pull down menu you select the "windows XP style"
Let us know how you get on .

Everything there is correct.
I got another error about corrupt files. Do you think a reinstall would be best? I've not got any data I need to backup so formatting again would be no problem.

Thanks

Hi Cowburn

Well if your getting a load of error msgs then we could end up chasing this dragon all day, so if your comfortable formatting then go ahead.
We at PCHF would only recommend formatting as a last resort but, like I say above..........
The oyster is yours mate.

Since you just got done formatting, it would not be a big waste of your time to format again.
Although, make sure that your actually erasing the hard drive and not just writing over top your old installation.
Sometimes files do get corrupt during install, it happens.

Hey Cowburn,

Before you reformat, try this. Insert your XP cd, click on "start", "run" then type "sfc /scannow" and let that run, it should find and replace any corrupt/missing files.

Hi
Well I just formatted and everything was fine, then after I restarted after the second windows update it's gone back to the old style! And yes I erased my harddrive before reinstalling windows.
Notice in the screenshot how there is no option for a xp Windows and Buttons, very odd
Any ideas?

Thanks
