Default [Answered] WinXP tini install

About 2 or 3 months ago I ran into this program that allows you to take your winXP install disk and I think you made an image of it then you could remove all components you wanted to make a mini WinXP install disk.

Of course at the time I was not interested in such a program and do not remember the name of the program. I've tried google etc to no avail.

Basically, What I'm looking for is an extremely small winXP install that reads NTFS files. I just need it to run 1 or 2 programs. That's it! I don't need it to surf the web or print, view, pictures, movies, no bells no whistles, nothing

I used that nLight The total OS after install was still 1.3GB

These folders

Documents and Settings
Program Files
WINDOWS

Were about 650mb (Still bigger than I had hoped)

And there was a file called pagefile.sys that was 720mb

I'm guessing that pagefile is my Windows swap file? I think it is there in case I run out of memory.

I have 512mb of ram and I only need to use two little progs on this OS. Do I even need that pagefile at all?

Also I'd like to get the

Documents and Settings
Program Files
WINDOWS

Much smaller. I was hoping about 300mb or so.

Any advise?

Hi Keypel...the pagefile is indeed the swap file - but without it windows will pretty much die...

You can reduce the size of it - but reducing it will reduce the performance you have in windows.

Documents and settings only stores user profiles and settings...so this holds your "my documents" and all that jazz...so if you want that smaller - only use the Administrator username, and don't have any other users on the computer.

Google Barts CD...i think it is...it's XP on CD - perhaps if you find this, you can find out what it has/doesn't have.
