Default [Fixed] A few problems...

Hi,

I've got a few queries which have been bugging me about my laptop. It has slowly seemed to happen more and more as i use it so here it is;

Basically, all of a sudden i noticed that all the standard games had vanished from the games folder and were nowhere to be seen.
Next, the volume icon in my taskbar vanished and when i went into the CP and clicked to put it there it said it could not.
Next thing was my standby option dissapearing.
Finally, MS Paint seems to have dissapeared from my laptop aswell...

I have been told that for the standby option to come back i need to reinstall some drivers or something or other.

Basically, can anyone tell me what the hell is going on?

Thanks

(I hope this is in the right forum as i have multiple problems so wanted to put it in a more general forum )

Hello MP13,

Welcome to PCHF.

If you go to Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs, Add / Remove Windows components, Go to "Accessories and Utilities" and tick "Games". If it's already ticked, untick, click Next to finish the wizard, and then go back in a put a tick back in.

In the same section, you can do this for paint, under "Accessories and Utilities", "Accessories" followed by "Paint".

Can you give me the exact error message for volume control? And explain a bit more about standby option dissapearing?

Hi and thanks. Paint and games have been restored also after doing that the volume icon has decided to pop back into the taskbar which is useful.

With the standby option, basically, when i click to shutdown and it brings up the standby/shut down/ restart option, the option to put the computer on to standby is greyed out a bit and i can't click on it. Thats all i can really say as i have never encountered an error to do with it or anything... It just seemed to vanish. Any ideas?

Thanks

Edit: Windows XP Home Edition

Hi MP,

This could be caused by a faulty device driver, but can you try this:

- Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab.
- Click Settings within the "Performance" section
- Select the Advanced tab, followed by Change
- Within the "Virtual memory" section, click "System managed size"
- Click OK, OK, OK to exti, and then Restart your PC and see if your Standby comes back.

Otherwise, can you give me the make and model of your PC.
