I am asking for help in learning how to download a Freeware on line book to my computer.

"Grokking the GIMP"

I have successfully downloaded the the GIMP 2 program onto my computer.

{Those who are familiar with me know what a accomplishment this is! }

I messed around with it & found I did not have a "Win Zip" so I downloaded that too but I am unable to use the complex link type format that is like what is on line.

{ I might be force to go off line for a while & want to download this so I can keep learning}

So If You all could give a Step by Step procedure I would be very thankful

Go here and download 7-Zip after you have installed it, right click on the Grokking-the-GIMP-v1.0.tar.gz file and select Extract here. When that compressed file is ready, right click on Grokking-the-GIMP-v1.0.tar and select Extract here again and you will have a readable version of GtG...

WinRAR is better

I'd recomend WinRAR over 7-Zip.

Either one will work but you can grab WinRAR at WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files

winrar is more widely used.

WinRAR maybe better but it's not free whereas 7-Zip is. There are certain files that WinRAR will not open that 7-Zip will.
