Default Need help booting XP

Hello,

I recently decided to change XP's boot screen on my notebook, and followed the procedure listed here, Overclockers Club - Hack/Change Windows XP Boot Screen Guide , in which I took the ntoskrnl.exe file, and replaced the same file in the %windir%\system32 folder. I backed up the original file on my desktop in case of an error.

When I restarted my computer it ran fine and the bootscreen that I downloaded was there but afterwards I got an error about initialization failed.

I downloaded the xp quick boot from bootdisk.com, intending to just boot from the floppy and remedy my mistake. I configured the BIOS to boot from the floppy and it still failed to boot, and I recieved the same error. I formatted another floppy and used xp on my desktop to create an ms-dos disc, and dos runs fine on it, but I have no experience with dos.

If you could somehow tell me how to get the boot disc to run, or help me with the steps I would need to take in dos it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Baulder

Welcome to PC Help Forums

Can I just put you straight on one thing and that is that XP does not run on a DOS platform, you may have it formatted it as FAT32 but there is no DOS structure whatsoever.
Having said that, what you need to repair is the XP cdrom as all boot files are on there.

Sorry it took me so long to reply I've been out of town for a while.

Sorry about the mix up on the ms-dos issue I just got a command prompt, how would I go about repairing the XP cdrom?
