Ok remember how i had Winsow 2000 proffessional? yea well i baught the windows xp home edition oem and tried installing. Off the bat it said that microsoft did not support this update.. SO i went along, installed it and then no icons came up on teh ddesktop only the taskbar was there. I could could not set up internet explorer. Also i had a choice of OS's every restart. As angered as I was i went into Windows 2000, I COULD set up internet and everything was there. HELP?

Windows XP and 2000 Professional are 2 different operating systems. They are both based on Windows NT-- and are somewhat similar-- but not THAT similar. That is why it said "does not support this update"
You will have to:
a) try uninstalling one or the other
b) reformat and install one or the other
c) reinstall both-- but on separate partitions on your harddrive.
If you installed one "over" the other-- I cannot guarantee that anything short of a full reformat/reinstall will work.

The OEM version as i have learned without anyone telling me before i ruined by computer is for computers that dobnt have operating systems. Thanks alot guys now i have a computer that doesnt work. Unless there is someone who knows how to get rid of windows 2000, and xp and start from scratch dont bother commenting.

Your computer is not "ruined".

No one here advised you to attempt to install an operating system without reading anything about the subject first. You pushed the buttons.

There is always a way to fix an operating system. When you are calmer we can talk-- and I will do my best to help.

Ok-- maybe I misunderstoof your first post...

Did you mean that you had Windows 2000 Pro installed --and you bought an upgrade version of Windows XP -- and attempted install-- and now your internet connection won't work ??

If so-- your installation may be fine... you don't just install the operating sytem and everything just works. You have to do some configuration first.

If your PC boots normally-- and gets to XP's desktop-- and runs ok-- you may just have to setup your internet connection. Who is your ISP...??
