Default Reformatted HD's and reinstalled XP :(

P4 3.4
2GB RAM
2 250GB HD's
Radeon X800 256mb
SB Audigy 2zs
Windows XP Home edition

About two weeks ago I removed some programs from, Add Remove programs. After that my PC did not always boot properly and when it did I would get system error messages. I built this PC about 1.5 years ago. I decided to reformat my HD's and reinstall my OS. First I reformatted my slave drive and installed the OS on that drive by mistake, so I had two OS"s. I deleted both partitions and then reinstalled the OS on the master drive. Here is my problem.

I cannot connect to the internet no matter what I have tried, I can connect other PC's to that wire and get a connection.

In my computer it does not recognize my slave drive, but lists it in the device manager. Also it does not recongize my video or sound card. It does not list them in the device manager. Open windows on the desktop do not move smothly across the desktop they are quite choppy.

Not sure what to do please help. I don't know that windows has properly reformatted the drives and maybe the fact that I installed the OS on both drives, maybe there is some conflict, even though I deleted the partitions on both drives.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to pay MS $35 to fix this problem

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds to me as if you haven't re-installed all of the correct drivers for the various components attached to your motherboard. What is the make and model number of your PC?

I built the PC myself, I had no problems installing the operating system then. Is there a way to format the secondary drive to wipe clean in case there is a conflict with files that are on that drive.

The best way to "clean" it would be to boot to a dos floppy and run fdisk, removing all partitions and then re-formatting the drive.

How do I go about doing that, thank you. That sounds like a good start.

Go to our link partner, bootdisk.com. Grab a Windows 98 bootdisk (don't worry, we only need the fdisk tool). Create the disk thru the .exe file that you download.

Boot from the disk (after making sure that it is your primary boot device in the bios). Then follow these instructions FOR THE SLAVE DRIVE.

How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk - A lot of reading but if you pick it up, it's another skill to add to your arsenal
