I swapped the Mobo and added new memory in by daughter's computer and now as soon as the windows logo comes up a BSOD flashes and it reboots. This goes on for as long as you can stand to watch. How do I get it to stop rebooting so I can read the BSOD and figure out what's wrong?

Is this a prebuilt pc or a custom built pc?

Is the motherboard the same make and model as what came out of the machine? If not, you will probably have to reinstall windows. The hardware signatures on your hard drive are for the old motherboard, and windows thinks you put the hd in another computer, which is basically what you did, if its a different motherboard. If its the same board , then i would uninstall the memory you added and see if that helps.

It's not a brand name computer. More like a hodge/podge of components. And to Uncleed, it is a different Motherboard than what was in it. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to reinstall XP. I got the BSOD code , 0x0000007B(0xF79CF528,0xC0000034, 0x00000000,0x00000000). Does this make any sense? It also suggested I run Chkcsk /f but that's tough when you can't get to DOS.

I think most of those error codes have to do with the hardware windows is looking for and cant find.(video card, ide controller.....ect) . Have a look here for the first one, and you can type in the others and do a search for an explanation of them:

The 0x0000007B is( this error is displayed when a critical boot device is missing from your configuration)
If you have your windows cd, you can run chkdsk by inserting the cd, booting to the recovery console, and at the C: prompt, run chkdsk.

With a motherboard goes the BIOS and chipset... which are the first things in the boot process... I think you are looking at reinstall. I don't know if there's a quick way around this... and it would probably lead to other problems later on.
When you install Windows-- the first things on the screen are "examining hardware configuration"... which is the basis of everything else.


If you have a lot of stuff on there to save-- you could temporarily install your HD in another PC and backup the important stuff.

Apparently the problem was the differences between the motherboards. I had to reinstall XP. I have replaced several motherboards before but had never run into this problem. Thanks to all for your help.
