Banana.ani is just a windows cursor, normally installed to c:\windows\cursors. wouldn't stop you from booting up your Pc, but would only stop you from using the "Dinosaur" cursor theme in Windows XP. Nothing to worry about with that file, as long as it continued to copy after that point.

Just a quick question, at what point does it go black, straight after the post screen, before you would normally see the Windows XP loading screen?

It goes black when I press enter to reboot. AND, it won´t reboot, even, it just leaves the installation window and then goes black with a blinking cursor at the left top. I waited for about an hour to see if something would eventually happen. When I pressed the power button to force it to turn off and then on again, still nothing happened, just empty screen and blinking cursor.

Hi Karin,

I believe I know whats wrong there.

Can you dowload: http://www.ranish.com/part/part240.zip

Extract the files onto another blank floppy disk.

Boot back up with your Windows 98 floppy again, swap disks and type in Part

From the partition editor, scroll down to your Windows partition, should be around the third entry, and press "b" on your keyboard, and you will see the ">" character appear to the left. This will flag the disk to boot to that partition. Remove the floppy disk and see if you can now bootup properly?

I did and changed the boot up to the partition onto which the windows installation had been loaded. Clicked to save, then esc, then removed the floppy... nothing happen. Clicked the power button to shut it down, then restarted it. Still, nothing happened. Inserted the boot98 floppy again, tried type C:\i386\winnt.exe. Tried type many other commands (all I could think of .. I know close to nothing about DOS commands). Nothing worked.
The windows files did load nicely from the 1GB partition to the bigger FAT32 partition. The only thing lacking is for the installation process to continue and finish... which it obviously will not. So, I am still stuck.

Did you try using that software on different partitions to see if it would boot? I can't see what you see so it's hard to explain which one on the list you should flag to boot.

Sorry, I am not good at giving precise descriptions of what´s happening here (or, what´NOT happening..)
And, no, I only typed b at where the windows had loaded onto.
The partitions are as follow:

0 MBR

1 PRI unused

2 Pri 1 Windows FAT32 cyl 0, head 1, sect 1
(1 GB, where I placed the CD files)

3 Pri 2 windows FAT32 LBA cyl 131, head 0, sect 1
(28 GB partition, here´s where the files loaded into. I flagged this as boot up partition. I notice there´s a 0 on "head" ...which perhaps in laymen´s terms will mean that there are no starting points??

4 pri unused
5, 6 and 7 are unused space.

It also says in a column below: "MBR executable code: Unknown IPL" Totally Greek to me, I just get that there is no starter in the master boot record.

I´m sorry about the delay in-between posts. I borrow son´s computer, which means I have computer access only when he´s not using it. I so appreciate your patience!

Oh, and the volume in which the files were loaded onto has no name. Could that be a problem, maybe?
