Are you definately sure you can't get into Safe mode by pressing F8 continuously on power up?
If you can't, press F12 and change the boot order to cdrom, insert your XP disk and run a repair from there.
Just letting you know XP Pro can actually run with a minimum of 64Mb Ram just to be sure I checked the box of my XP Pro and I know it work because I'm using some old pentium 233 with mmx and 64Mb of ram for print servers.

That's got to be crawling in the dust, I've run XP on a 266 with 128 and it was like a turtle on crutches.
