Ok that box was checked, so I'm stumped. Like I said whenever I use my printer now my connection is dropped, and normally whenever my connection drops it's set to start dialing again, but instead I'm getting some box I've never seen before in order to re-connect. And this didn't happen until the Windows update last week. I just want my settings back the way I had them but don't know how they get messed up in the first place.

Jerry do you run any kind of Anti Spyware or Anti Malicious Ware programs?
Which Firewall and Anti Virus program are you running?
I'm trying to determine if you may have a dialler on your system.

Ok let's see, I do run Ad-Aware, and Spyware Blaster is supposed to be running in the background at all times.

The only firewall I use is the one Windows runs, and that is currently running. I'm using Avast for my Anti-Virus program.

Ok a word on the Spyware in a minute.

Have a look in Internet Options/Connections/Settings/Advanced and look to make sure the "Disconnect if idle for X minutes" and the "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" are both unticked.

AdAware is good and so is Blaster.
Avast is also good for the AV.
Windows Firewall blocks net traffic on an inbound basis only so if you get an infection and it wants to broadcast then you may be in the soup.
I would obtain either Zone Alarm or Comodo, both good Firewalls.

Ok both of those boxes are unchecked.

Do you feel that a firewall is necessary even with dialup? If so I'll get one of the one's you mentioned.

I don't know what else could be causing the current issue then. My printer is hooked up to the phone line because I use it sometimes to send faxes, but I've never had this problem before.

It's an absolute necessity even if a person had broadband.
Where your at risk is if a rogue dialer got installed onto your system which calls premium rate numbers besides changing your home page.
Consider what I have said and I will see if any of the other members can expand on your problem.
