Default Computer Won't boot

Hi. My sister gave me her old computer which was working but after I tried to update it to the Windows XP version that I have on my computer, it froze up in the last 10 minutes of installing so I shut it down and now it won't allow me to boot up at all. It gives me the following error:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to yoru computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your copmuter. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK / F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007b (0xF9972640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I tried making a boot disk from Bootdisk.Com but not sure if I made the boot disk correct for one and then if I did, why it wouldn't be working.

Can anyone help me out with this? I truly appreciate any help I can get.

Lori

Hi Lori,

Welcome to PCHF.

This can occur if some of the hardware is in-compatible with Windows XP. Older machines will not work with Windows XP. What are the spec's of this PC?

You can access the recovery console, by going back to Windows Setup using your Windows XP installation CD. At the start, you will have the option to recover windows, press R. When you reach the c: prompt, you can type chkdsk /f from there.

just a quick question was it a clean install did you format the hard drive? or did you load it as an upgrade? If you don't need any of the info on the pc try a clean install.

Kind Regard,
Matt
