Default Booting XP install CD

Is it possible to boot windows xp using a usb-to-ide cable with a normal cd-rom attached to it?

Usb-to-ide product here:
CU USB 2.0 to IDE Cable with Power Adapter USB-2100 at TigerDirect.com

My laptop has no cd-rom or floppy drive, and i'm not planning to spend $100+ for one.

Hi qwerty,

what model laptop is it? You should be able to boot from USB...but that all depends on if Windows setup supports USB ahrd drives - i've never had to find out myself.

Its a thinkpad x60 from lenovo.com. Yes, it can boot from a usb device, but I would like to know if the setup described above could possibly work. Can the device actually work while in dos mode, rather than in XP. I would like to know before buying it. Thanks for the reply

I don't believe it will work.

There are no offical drives from Microsoft for USB in DOS...Unless one of th eother techs knows better, i believe that we're out of luck on this one
