Go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence to cdrom first.
Save and Exit.
Make sure your Media Edition disk is in the cdrom drive.
Hopefully it should get you to a install/repair screen.
Run a repair.

when you add a new HDD you must run WIN XP Disc in repair, follow all on screen promps, all should run ok after that

I'm sorry Che148 but I have to disagree.
If a brand new hdd is introduced, then XP should find it.
It all comes down to what is, if anything, on the hdd.
If totally free of data then it should come back as XGB of unallocated space or raw.
This space can be formatted to, if you want, either NTFS or FAT32
