Na, that should have sorted it.

Can you go to My Computer, Windows, System32, and right click on "ialmdev5.dll" and go to Properties.

In the General tab, check the filesize. should be: 233 KB (238,650 bytes)?
In the Version tab, can you tell me the file version. should be 6.14.10.4543?

Yep, the file size is 233 KB, and the iile version is 6.14.10.4543

But i did notice that i can't navigate to it the way that you said to...there's no System32, and i had to search for ialmdev5.dll.

and the following came up:

Name In Folder Size Type
ialmdev5.dll C:\i386 175 KB App' Extension
IALMDEV.DLL C:\DRIVERS\VIDEO\ONBOARD 175kb " "
ialmdev5.dll C:\dell\drivers\R126541\Win2000 234 KB " "
ialmdev5.dll C:\dell\drivers\R86247\win2000 150KB " "

could this be causing any problems?

Edit: Oh man, that ASCII style chart didn't work well...can you still make sense of it?

If you are getting this when gaming-- I would suspect a RAM problem...not enough -- or a bad stick. Playing games is the most stressful thing for your PC-- you could try disabling anything running in the background-- to free up more RAM for your game.

The "page fault in a nonpaged area" can mean a lot of things-- usually hardware-related... if it comes up with a specific error code next time... write that code down and post it in this thread.

do you know your PC's specs ? Motherboard/RAM (how much and what type)

Na, none of these would be in use, but you should be able to see system32. Maybe hidden. Whilst your in My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and untick "Hide protected operating system files".

Then try to check the version again.

it still says the same thing.

When i get the blue screen, it now says this:

technical information

***STOP 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF804996, 0xA9EDBBF4, 0x00000000)

***win32K.sys - address BF804996 base at BF800000, Datestamp 43446a58

is this significant in any way?

Ohh yes! This one is different to your original BSOD. Your original one was ialmdev5.dll, and this one is win32k.sys.

ih8bills could well be right, this could be a hardware problem. If you have a spare floppy disk, download and extract: http://www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip

Use the install.exe which will install memtest onto a floppy disk. Reboot and do a full memory test. There are also instructions within the .zip file, in a document called readme.txt, if your not sure at any point, but it's quite easy to use.

If all is clean, after a BSOD your PC will dump more about the BSOD into a file, so can you paste the contents of these files back here:

- Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer and click on the System section.
- Look for event 1001, which should have the following information:

Event ID: 1001
Source: Save Dump
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was ?
...A dump was saved in:.......?

- This will tell you where the location of the dump file is. Paste the contents of the file, or renamte it from .dmp to .txt and attach it here.
