Default [Pending] Cant access System Restore - virus ridden laptop!?

Hi All! I've got my fingers and toes crossed that you can help me out!

Bascially, I think my laptop has been attacked by a virus. The other day, I tried logging onto my laptop, only to find that the start menu has completely dissapeared. Also, when I try to open up other programmes, there seems to be an error on them.

I wanted to do a System Restore, but seeing as my start menu has dissapeared, I don't know how to access it from the Help & Support section, nor "Run" function.

Can anybody tell me how else to go about it? Or other ways to fix my laptop?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Pink Soda

Welcome to PC Help Forums

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode on start up by pressing F8?

Hi Pink Soda,

Welcome to PCHF.

You can run System Restore from Run, by typing: %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

System Restore will only restore your registry and settings, and does restore everything. If you think it maybe virus related, please follow PCHF Prework on my signature. Post your AVG and Hijack log's back here, and a member of the security team will analyse them, and come back to you shortly after.

I don't think she can get into Run Monkey.

Thanks for both your responses, I shall certainly try them out when I get home!

Just wondering, how can I load up the "Run" function without accessing it from the Start menu? Thanks

I hope I'm not being presumptious by assuming you are of the fair sex Pink Soda.
