Windows XP/2000 - [Answered] Why do u have tp push F1 when start the pc posted in the Operating Systems forums; there must be a way of doing it with out taking it apart again ! Ahhh, it's hard to get to, guess I have to ?...

Andy I am of the firm belief that this hdd is done for, you can't slave it to the laptop you need another pc to do this.
Put the faulty hdd in another pc, set the jumpers on it to slave, boot up and see if you can see if you can see your files if not throw it in the bin and get a new hdd.
