[Fixed] 98 -> xp reso

hi. my friend has a pentiumIII unit and he wanted me to reformatt his HDD..
so.. i did the format stuff and install xp just like any ther i did..

then the problem..
before i formatted the HDD. i turned on the cpu.. and it was xp already.. and was on 1024x768 resolution..

then. after i format and re install xp.. (used the xp cd not win98->xp) the problem is after the windows logo/ loading bar is finished..

the monitor turns off as if it cant support the resolution..
many times i tried to restart -- all same results..

so. i went safe mode.. and vwalah.. it's all fine at 800x600 16-bit resolution..
so.. i disabled the video driver.. and restarted it..
and this time normal.. NOT safe mode..
and vwalah.. it's all good.. the monitor off is fixed..

and another problem... i can't switch the resolution to 1024x768 32-bit..

can anyone help me?. or must i go win98 first then install xp?..

Welcome to PC Help Forums

Unless I'm mistaken your running a dual boot setup here ie XP and 98.
I also think you re-installed/repaired rather than formatted and then installed. This re-install appears to have wiped the driver for your graphics card.
Get an updated driver for that card and install it, re-enable the video and you should be ok.

hiya wolfey.. i think it's not a double os..
because if it is. it would ask me if hich os i want to go at startup..

but it's only xp xp.. hmm. i guess it's the driver..
anyone know where to get a driver detector and where to download a driver patch / update..

Without knowing the make and model/number of your graphics card I couldn't say.
Can you come back to us with those details?

helo. i used everest ultimate edition and found the name of my graphic card.. i downloaded the driver and got it working properly.. thnx. ^__^
