Default Windows Xp Media center edition 2005 installation

I have installed my XP MCE, but the desktop seems to be still in the NT mode, the taskbar, start-up bar are still in the win 2000 theme. Is there any problem in the installation process? does it got to do with the service pack 2 being installed first? In addition i have encountered an error indicating, XML parser installed which reflect in the help file that you have to be the administator of the sytem. Could anyone please enlighten me on the matter thanks!!!

Hello LbronJames23.

This problem occurs normally if you have joined an NT domain. If not, go to My Computer, Control Panel, Display and change your theme from "Windows Classic" to "Windows XP".

At what point do you get the message about the XML parser?

When i tried to install the Utility cd-rom of the motherboard D865PERL then it showed this message. It rendered the message pop-up useless. Let's say if i'm still unable to change the view to windows xp and the xml parser keeps reappearing each time. If i'm still unable to change the desktop view to it;s original what should i do?

Leb,

I'm not really getting quite enough information here to form any kind of conclusion for both problems.

- Can you provide a screen shot (Print Screen) of the error you get with CD.
- Are you part of an NT domain?
- If not, do you get any error messages when you change your theme to WindowsXP?

Hi there, If you goto start-->control panel-->administrative tools-->services and scroll down to themes..is that service running? If you right click it and it gives you the option to stop it then it must be running...But if it gives you the option to start it, click start and then see if it allows you to change your theme now.

I've noticed you have the little key icon in the bottom corner of your screenshot's so you will firstly need to activate windows and then try doing the windows updates, I did recently have media centre edition myself and there is a major update for the 2005 version on the microsoft updates site, this may solve your problem..To access windows updates open internet explorer, click tools tab at the top then click windows updates.

Also may I ask, when you installed Media Centre Edition did you do the update or a new installation? At first I did the update installation with mine, and I seem'd to get alot of errors, and most of the services wern't running once the operating system had install'd so I did a new installation instead and all worked great...The difference being that a new installation will delete all your old windows files and I think it clears your whole hard-drive..An update installation will keep your old windows files and other files and folders you recently had before the windows installation..This is great if you need to keep certain files..but you will find most programs don't run after an update installation. Hope this helps in some way...Dave
