Default NO OS Detected

hey guys, i have an ibm desktop, and i just replaced the harddrive inside because it was failing. So i bought a new 80gb eide WD and installed it, installed windows on it, and everything seemed fine. but sometimes when i start it up, it goes threw the boot order (floppy, cdrom, hdd, etc) and when it gets to the hdd part, it says "No Operating System Found. press F1 for repeat boot process". i just checked the bios and everything seems fine, the bios found the cdrom, hdd, everything. i am about to try a chkdsk and see if anything helps. and one more question, it takes about a minute to load from the bios screen. when i turn my pc on, it shows the IBM bios screen, and it stays there for about 30 seconds and the busy light its blinking like crazy but i cant hear the hdd? please help!

Hi Eastern

Welcome to PCHF

Go back into the BIOS and change the boot order to;
1st HDD
2nd CDROM
3rd FDD
4th (If Applicable) LAN

Also make sure the FAST GATE A20 option is enabled

I changed the boot order to HDD, cdrom, and network. i dont think i have FDD cause i really dont know what that is. i also looked for FAST GATE A20 but i couldnt find it in my ibm bios and it is the latest version of the bios. Windows boots without a problem, but it still takes about 30 seconds to boot up from the bios.

Sorry FDD = Floppy Disk Drive.
30 seconds is not an unusual amount of time.
Does all appear to be ok now?

You could also edit the boot loader time out to a lower figure to save a few seconds.
Like so:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
