Hey johndavis411!
Welcome to PC Helpforum!

What kind of power supply do you have? How many Watts?
As you say it works fine unplugging all fans and UV plugs, it surely looks like the PSU has something to do with it. I don't think it's a faulthy harddisk drive then.
Is the harddisk connected directly to the PSU by the way? Or are there fans connected between the PSU and the HDD?

Hey Johndavis411,

Welcome to The PCHF,
It does sound like it might be the psu, download the application here and run it to see what the voltages are doing (post the results or take a screenshot and post it)
You might also want to have a look here which will give you an idea of the minimum PSU you should be running in your system.
Hope this helps

that worries me. have you unplugged the power connector to the motherboard? I had the same problem on my old computer, and when i took it out, both of the +5v and a ground, were blackened, the plastic melted. make sure you check that!

Default hdd probs

it is a 400 watt psu 2.66ghz pentium processor, 300gig hdd seagate, geforce fx 5200 graphics card with 128 mb ram, 1280 mb shared ddr, stock processor cooler, 2 light up fans, probs seem to start when i plug in uv lights hdd fans. fans are connected separately to hdd and uv lights. ill put in a screen shot as soon as i figure out how to do it lol. bear with me thanks for your opinions much appreciated.
