Default [Answered] 6.10 Driver Resolution Problem

Since installing the 6.10 cats:

Start up computer, resolution is 640x480 at log-on screen, finally changes back to 1280x1024 when icons + taskbar loads.

Before on the old cats it was 1280x1024 when I was at the log-on screen, is there anyway to fix this?

I have an Connect3D X850XT AGP8x

a)You could try rolling back the video-driver to the previous version.
b)you could uninstall the driver and reinstall from a fresh download.

Usually when there's a problem with a new driver -- the un/reinstall is the best method. Especially if you installed the new drivers over the old ones-- without uninstalling the old version first. Video drivers are so integral to a PC's function ...that the slightest error causes major problems.

Many people recommend never installing video drivers without uninstalling the old ones first-- though I have been guilty of doing it -- I have sometimes paid the price for being in a hurry.
ATI actually has a driver-cleaner that will remove old driver files for you:

Rolling back will stop me from playing games based on UnrealEngine3 which I currently use.

I will try a fresh download + reinstall.

Hi otester,

Do you log in with the administrator account onto windows?
If not - log into that, and set the resolution in there, reboot and you should have the resolution solved.
