Question [Answered] according to Trend Micro Housecall I need updates for my Microsoft Office

Dear Sir/Madam,

According to Microsoft express update the only important update my pc needs is Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 for my Windows XP.

Unfortunately, I do not want this, as it affects my computer.

However, according to Trend Micro Housecall I need updates for my Microsoft Office 2000, which I have installed on my Windows XP.

When I tried to download Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3), my computer could not install it. I received a message stating, “ The expected version of the product was not found on your system.”

Because I regularly update Windows XP, has Trend Micro Housecall got it wrong?

Please I need help and advice.

Hello justjohnnygo,

No Trend Micro has probably got it right. Aparently this is "another Microsoft bug". Try the following:

- Go into Microsoft Word, go to Help and About. Make sure your currently using SP2.
- Try the installer version of SP3 here: Download details: Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Hi Mad Monkey
Tx for your advice.
I followed the instructions

"To install this download
You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
Download the o2ksp3.exe file from this page by clicking the Download button above and saving the file to your hard disk drive.
  1. Double-click the o2ksp3.exe program file on your hard disk to start the setup program.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Got the same result as before
"When I tried to download Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3), my computer could not install it. I received a message stating, “ The expected version of the product was not found on your system.”

I have been working on it all afternoon and evening. I even went back to the beginning i.e.
How to Download and Install the Fully Downloadable SR-1 Update

loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); 1.
Point your Web browser to the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#o2sr1au (This page has moved
2.
Click the link to download O2ksr1adl.exe.

No success what so ever.

Is it possible that I have a version of Office 2000 Premium SR-1 that will not accept upgrades?

Do I ignore Trend Micro?

Totally Depressed

P.S. My wife thinks I am having an affair with my pc.
My 2 kids want to get on it to do their homework.

Na, they will all accept updates. It looks like some registry setting is missing from your system. One thing I would recommend it to make sure your using the same account your used to setup Office in the first place. Another options would be to completely remove Microsoft Office, install it again and then apply the service packs.

Service Packs tend fix any bugs with previous versions. Unless I have a problem, I don't normally install Service Packs. If it aint broke don't fix it! I'm still on SP1, so unless you have any need to update it, then yep, I would ignore Trend Micro.

Microsoft Security Patches are more important if your on the net, as they fix bugs that attackers, virus's and malware tend to exploit.
