Default blue screen with white letters and numerals

Spoke with Dell last night and this morning. One suggestion was to update drivers in my EpsonPerfection 1260. Went to epson website and downloaded drivers. When I went to use the scanner, it wouldn't run. So I unplugged it and ran the install disk. The scanner still doesn't work. But my problem has always been with the blue screen not the scanner. The latest stop errors were: OX0000008E and the next one: 0X0000007A. Please help.

Hello justintime,

Welcome to PCHF.

The most likely cause of these stop errors point to faulty memory.

You can test your memory using this utility. You will need a spare floppy disk to boot to:

OK, here's one, if you have a CD-R and something that reads ISO image files such as Nero:

Download - Memtest86 v3.2 ISO image (zip)

The only other thing I can suggest to test your memory, and only if you have two stick of memory in your PC, is to try and remove one at a time to see if one of them is causing your problems.

Sorry for being so stupid about this, but I had forgotten that I have a portable floppy drive. Could I use this and a floppy to complete the memory test? Do I just follow the instructions at www.memtest86? Thanks for trying to help me.

Some PC's let you boot from external floppy drives some don't. You may need to go into BIOS, when you first boot up your PC (F1, F2, or [DEL]). Go to Boot device priority and make sure the USB Floppy device shows at the top of the list.
