Default [Answered] Virtual Memory

Hi to one and all..
My Q refers to my girls PC whom is presently in USA while Im in UK so can only go by what she tells me!!!
It appears with just a few windows open , even be they non graphic or web pages her Pc keeps freezin and memory error messages!!!!
I see from her sytem spec she doesnt have a great amount of RAM ..but surely enough to deal with opeing a few pictures etc up!!
So presuming it is Virtual memory!!! I did follow a thread I saw relating to this in another post but found it to confusing for me!!
Seems all her settings ref Virtual Memory are set to windows default/Managed!!
Strange thing she tells me her Page file is unticked ..I know with a large amount of memory this is fine but on such the little she has is this right??
Is there any person kind enough on here to work out whats best for her to do given her sytem spec!! and if anythings to be changed what is best to put if not sytem managed!!
Many thanks guys
LES

How much space has she got left on her hard disk?

Virtual memory needs at least 200-300MB of hard drive space.

I never let mine run below 1GB.

It might also be worth checking that the RAM isn't corrupted. There are plenty of website that will do this for you or Microsoft provide a free utility.

Hi no123les,

What did you use to check the memory? Memtest86 - Memory Diagnostic Page is probably the best. (also the one that microsoft 'provide' a link to)

Get her to follow these instructions to increase the page file size...

Right click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> 'Performance Options' Settings -> Advanced -> Change

Set to custom size...the Initial Size (MB): should be set to her total amount of ram, and the Maximum Size (MB): should be set to double.
