Default I/O Error 103

On Windows XP I have a seperate user account for my son.

This account has become un-usable because whenever any key on the keyboard is pressed the following error message is displayed:

'I/O Error 103'

A new error message box pops up on every keystroke.

To make matters worse, I get the same problem everytime I try to create a new user account.

I have tried re-installing the keyboard software and even removing the keyboard software completely, but the problem still exists. I have also tried removing and re-installing parental controls, and tried without parental controls but still get the problem.

Bizarely, my wifes and my account are un-affected. Somehow I need to be able to set-up an account for my son again because obviously he needs to be a limited user and needs stricter internet settings.

Welcome to the forum.

Quick and dirty answer first, did you already try the System Restore function?

Hi Paul, welcome to the PC Help Forum.

An idea for you to try (not sure if it will work).

Right click on My Computer and select Properties -> Advaned -> "User Profile" Settings -> Select your account, and select 'Copy To'

Select the location, and once copied, change it from an Administrator account, to a limited user account. See if this works.

If it doesn't, I believe there might be some malware on your computer...as i've never seen/heard of an I/O Error on every keystroke.

hehe..I agree, the "every keystroke" thing does seem odd...

Default Thanks

I've run virus / spyware software and there is nothing out of the ordinary.

If I can't find an answer I'll try a Windows repair.

System restore is out of the question, I don't fancy trying to work out what files to backup.
