Default Installing hardwear

Hi folks,
My problem is installing printers, you know those things that really get up your nose! I connect my printer to the computer via a usb. The hardwear update wizard appears and flickers. Then the new hardwear wizard comes up and repeats on the screen. This flickering of one and repeating of the other is in time with the hard disc also flickering. The floppy disc light also did this until I unenabled it. I thought that this might be a case of conflict but couldn`t find any.I took out a CH yoke I had on usb as well. I also took out the modem. I have two printers and this happened to both of them.It doesn`t seem to happen to anything else apart from a usb hub I was using. It may not be relevant but I do have a Belkin wireless mouse and keyboard. I have had the printer running quite a short while ago. I have checked thoroughly that I do not have any virus problems and used my Registry Keeper.
Thank you
Alan
