Angry [Answered] Need bios help:S

Hi!
Once upon a time I was going to install winxp, and then automatically delete the old win2000. I then somehow managed to put both win sys beside eachother, so I have to choose which one to start up when I turn on the pc.
I have partitioned the pc, and have both winsys on c:.
Now I want to formate the c:, and put winxp back in..ALONE...
First question is..:
-When I start up, the pc doesn't boot from the xp-cd. I then push f8 in the bios, but can't figure out where to go to change boot options.
I will be most grateful for quick help
Second question:
-Will the new install automatically delete both old winsys?

Thanks!!

Remkin-peace out-

Hi remkin,

Welcome to PCHF.

1) What BIOS are you using? Normally, all you need to do is change the boot priority, so that your CD-ROM starts first.

2) No! During the setup you are asked which partition you want to install Windows XP on. Instead of hitting enter and installing, you should delete your patitions by pressing D, which will then take you into another screen giving you the opertunity to create another.

when you restart and go into your bios. Just look around in your bios for "boot device priority" or "select boot device"...then you must change it to boot from you cd-rom and then you wil be able to set up the os..
hope this helps..

The command would be format c: /s, but you can't use it whilst the drive is already in use by Windows 2000. Also when you boot to the disk, you wouldn't have any CD-ROM drivers, to get to the CD to install Windows later.

So your best option is to get your boot priority sorted out. It's normally F1, F2 or [DEL] when you switch your PC on for AMI BIOS, unless it's a Compaq/HP machine.

Depending on which version of BIOS you have, you will see a screen similar to:

Hi!
Thanks..I'm really grateful, but I have looked around in the bios..
The only thing I see about boot is: "Enable boot logging".
Are there several bios-menus? I try to press all the F-buttons, but every time I come to the same menu.
