Windows XP/2000 - Both D and E drives now not working posted in the Operating Systems forums; This query is probably similar to the Oli question further down but in my case both my CD and DVD drives show a fault,(corrupt?). Running XP, but have no discs ...

Default Both D and E drives now not working

This query is probably similar to the Oli question further down but in my case both my CD and DVD drives show a fault,(corrupt?). Running XP, but have no discs to reinstall drives. No prob. with compurer speed although my "Restore system" is also not functioning. Appreciate a hand here. Russ

Hi, where do your drives show a "fault"? If system restore is not available then please follow the System File Checker link in my signature before proceeding.

Thank you for help.The system shows both of my drives have a yellow dot next to them with a ! in the middle. This when I check Hardware. Also opening My Computer shows C and F drives but not the main CD drives on computer. And of course putting and CD or DVD in the drives produces nothing. I ran sfc /scannow but it presents a problem and says possible cause iCD-Rom not working.
