Windows XP/2000 - windows updates wont install posted in the Operating Systems forums; i have windows xp pro service pack 2. and everytime i got to install the updated they all fail to install does any one no what could be the problem. ...

Hi ballstine, welcome to the PCHF!

Are you receiving any errors? or is it just not installed?

You could try a couple of things - update your IE to IE7, install Firefox with IE Tabs...

hey dude well it the sheild in the running programs bar it downloads ok then when i install were it tells you what indavidual things are being installed it say failed next to it. and at the end it say heres a list of updates that wernt installed and theres load. i already have explorer 7 and i use fire fox as my main browser.

Disregard the notice that says version four and not version six, it's the same thing just a different label at this site.

If there's any error message at all with your failed downloads, check it out with this list of fixes from Microsoft Windows Update...

the thing is the lil yellow sheild dnt say what version it is. it just has like 52 updates to install and all of them fail. is there any way to stop them failing. or a reason y they might.

Hey there ,
( Very unlikly but still )

First Double-click the clock, check the date settings (in particular the year). If off by more than 90 days, this can cause the issue you are seeing.


Also if you've got or can get a Windows Xp disc try


a repair install to do this follow the guide here
