Default Programs closing??

Hi all

i am new on this forum and looking for some help!! i have a problem with the majority of my downloaded files, when i open the file i get an error message saying windows need to close, which in turn closes everything down. If i can open the file, when i try to convert i get an error message saying for example - win avi needs to close, which again closes everything down. I have unistalled codecs and reinstalled k lite pack. I can watch the film on the pc but just cant open/convert the file. Can someone please help, this is driving me madddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to any helpers in advance!

Hello dino,

Welcome to PCHF.

Do you have this problem with anything other than AVI. Do you have this problem with .EXE, or .PDF files for example?

P.S. If you go mad, well rename you to MadDino!

dino,

Can you try the windows default codec pack: Download details: Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later

Also try Media Player 10: Windows Media Player 10

What does it say does it say your copy of windows is not genuine or something like that.

If not where did you buy your pc and what make and model or was it custom build?
