Default Restore Point problems

I`ve ckecked thru` all the Searches but I think I might need some help here. I hav`nt used my Restore point for several months and as I recall all was well when I did. Now when I need it I`m just getting a message saying something like "could not return to this Restore point". I`ve tried abut 6 other RP dates but get the same message. I`m using the max storage volume(4780Mb, I think). PC shows no viruses present and I have lots of virus protection. Using Win.XP 40gb h.drive of which I use about 1/3.
What I did the other day tho` was in "disk clean up" I removed "Temporary files" and "Compress old files". Could this have created the problem? Regards , Russ

Hi Remist, welcome to the PCHF!

What's the actual problem that's making you want to use the restore point? I believe they're a waste of time and system space...if a system is gone that far beyond help then the restore points won't help (that's what i believe anyway).

Default Restor Point problems

Thanks, and a good question. The reason for wanting to get back to my previous working system is for two problems I`ve now got, I think because of my use of " Disk clean up." The first is I had a bit of software called Cryptainer LE and I stored in this passwords etc. Now when I try to open this I get " The special volume has been compressed on an NTFS partition. This is not supported, please remove the compression attribute." But how? I need the secret info in this file.
The second problem was really to get back ,so I thought, to a point where my Cryptainer was working. Altho` I don`t use it often it would be nice if I new why my "Restore Point" is now not functioning. I have the Win. XP disk if that helps. Regards Russ

To fix your restore point problem, you may want to try a system scan...

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow

you'll need the windows cd handy.
