Hello everyone,

After having installed windows XP service pack 2 (I use XP home edition), I encountered a problem; my pc would lock up or restart itself when it was trying to load windows.

I found a fix to the problem on the internet. This fix involved changing a registry key somewhere. I believe it had something to do with 64-bit processors.

However, I have recently reinstalled everything, so I need to update windows again. But I can't seem to find the fix I used last time. Someone told me I just needed to install that one hotfix by microsoft, but that didn't work.

Does anyone know of the afformentioned registry fix?

I recently had to repair my colleagues home system for the very same reason you mentioned. I am not sure your problem is identical to his, but I found the answer at this MS KB article: You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I installed the patch and once completed I was able to install SP2 with no issues.

Try this and see if it helps you.
