Default Startup and Desktop

When I boot my Dell XP Home Edition (using Firefox), after it loads I get a blank page with the following:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21787
When I "x" out of this the desktop icons are underneath. I understand this is an Operating System problem. How do I correct it so it doesn't boot to my desktop?

What I mean is how do I correct this error so this page does not load to my desktop (it covers the whole screen) when I start (boot) my computer

Welcome to the PC Help Forum Eileen.

Can you please goto Start -> Run -> and type in sfc /scannow

You will need your windows cd handy

This scans for all corrupt/missing system files and replaces when it finds them.
