Default What does Syst. Restore actually restore??

I messed with some Registry, Global, Internet/Network settings - which I
should have never touched in the first place without further research.

So, if I do a System Restore will it reset all of these settings back to that time?

I added a program, did not like what it did, so I did a restore(backup) within that program, and my Windows Explorer is all out of order! I uninstalled that program!! Does System Restore help with straightening out Windows Explorer back to that earlier time also??

If you have any ideas, they are greatly appreciated!!
Thank you so very much!!!!

Hi Kate, welcome to the PCHF!

THat is the whole idea of the System Restore Points...it will let you restore your systems functionality back to the point you chose.

However, it won't run exactly the same as it used to, it will be a bit slower, but it will be most likely better then what it is now.

Give it a try, and if you still have problems, we're definately going to help you out some more

Sorry to bother you again --

Syst. Restore actually resets the Global & Internet/Network settings, too?? Windows Explorer, too???!!!! That is exactly what I need to accomplish!!

I do not understand why the system will run slower. Do you have just a second to explain this just a bit?

Will I have to re-install all of the W.'s XP Security Updates???

What would you suggest I use for a clean-up program after "Restore" to clean-up the old garbage??

Again, I am sorry to have had to bother you again ---- I REALLY, VERY TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE AND KNOWLEDGE!!!!

Hope you all have a terrific weekend!!

Thanx a bunch!!!!!!

Wow, you really are crazy

Don't worry, you're not a bother at all...

In theory Kate, yes - it will reset those 2 things.

It will run slower because essentially, it becomes an unclean install and there are many ways to clean up the system...which I'm more then willing to help with

Lets just first tackle this problem and see if the system restore will fix the issues you're having.

OK, I have been close to doing the Restore several times, but I am really, really nervous because I will lose all of the Windows XP, Microsoft, etc. updates, right? (And, to be honest, I don't know exactly what I'm doing.) I really would like to go back to the Restore Point of when my PC was upgraded - July of '05 - that's a long time ago.

Is there any other option to straighten things out & clean up my PC without doing a Restore? My programs all seem to work fine. But when I do go into files under "Admin. Tools", "Data Sources" & under "Comp. Services", "Com+ Appls., etc. Net Utilities, DCom Config., etc." and select an object, they are empty.

Thanking you AGAIN in advance for your advice - I really appreciate it!!

Ok, the only thing that comes to mind right now, is to run a SFC

Start -> Run -> type in sfc /scannow

You'll need your XP cd ready.
