Unhappy instelling new programs

I can,t seem to download and intall new software any more.
I tried winamp, update to ad-aware and easy cleaner. they seem to download but when I try to install nothing happens, no error message.
I am using XPpro with update2,AMD XP64 3000, and Norton AV.
The PC is about 2years old, still have lots of hard drive space and 1GB of ram.
Thanks for your help

Hi Richard!
Welcome to PC Helpforum!

Hopefully you'll be able to run the Prework instructions in my signature, can you try?

Blue

Hello richard,

Can you try installing something like this:

http://www.gadwin.com/download/ps_setup.exe

This is called Gadwin PrintScreen. It's a small App. The reason why I'm asking you to install this particular application, is because it doesn't use the "windows installer" that most applications use. If you can install this, then it will significantly narrow down your problem.
