Default [Fixed]Laptop Problems...again

Hey guys,

So, if you remember, I had a laptop a while back that had power failure problems, fortunately, I returned it and got a new one. Now, this one is having more troubles.

I went to turn it on today (it being an HP Pavilion ze4325us), and it wouldnt. I didnt hear the fan turn on, nor did anything else even beep. I figured it must be a dead battery, so I plugged it back in, but nothing happened. I then called a technician who walked me through a bunch of steps (reset button, taking battery out, etc), all to no avail. The earliest he can come over is Tuesday, which is too late for me. Does anyone know why this could have happened and/or how to fix it?

Thanks a ton for everyone's imput,
Connor

Hi Conor707,
Welcome back,
I have had a very quick look around and there seems to be a recurring theme on the battery/power connector being a bit tempramental. unfortunately what you have described is pointing to a failure of the power circuits, this also has the potential to affect the motherboard too. I'm afraid that you seem to be pretty much stuck with waiting for the repair. If you really need to get at the data on the drive you might be able to put it into an external caddy and copy what you need onto a pc or other laptop (N.B. check that this will not affect any warranty first)

Hmmm...that really stinks. How big of a problem is this really? Can I send it to someone to have it fixed/soldered, or is it going to require all new parts and everything?

Thanks a ton,
Connor

From what I've seen of these sor of probles it can vary a great deal. At best you might just need a power socket replaced, at worst the entire motherboard and other components. If the system is not under warranty, get a quote from a repair shop and see if it's actually worth getting it repaired as compared to getting a new one, the components for laptops can be ridiculously expensive.
Sorry to not be the bearer of better news.

Eh, its alright. Thanks for helping me out. I have a technician coming over on Tuesday to take a look at it and see exactly what is wrong. I bought this laptop off ebay, and when they checked, the warranty expired in 04, so Im out of luck there. If I do end up having to replace it, I am definately going to buy a new one. HP has some really good deals going on right now on laptops, I can get exactly what I need for around 6-700 dollars, with a free Vista upgrade when it comes out.

Thanks again for al of your help,
Connor

Be very careful regarding the Vista Capable PC stickers and the free upgrade. Read this page from Microsoft, it's in the last paragraph...

Thanks for the heads up. I actually, almost fell for that a while back, but I figured it out. HP actually has a free upgrade program:

Apparently, depending on what version of XP you get determines what free Vista upgrade you get. Theyre giving a free Media Center Edition Upgrade, so that means I get a free Vista Home Premium
