Default [Fixed] Boots to windows then monitors standby's

A client had a problem with his computer starting up to Windows screen and then after a while the monitor would just go on standby. I can't work out how to fix this. I can leave the computer in the BIOS menu for ages with no problems. Nothing is over-clocked or using hacked drivers. The temparatures are also normal to.

Spec:

Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm (IDE)

Hi Otester,

Welcome to the site,
If this is a new/reinstalled o/s the display might be out of range for the monitors capabitliies.
To get around this, tap "f8" when the system boots and then start the pc in "vga mode", this looks terrible as it only loads the very basic display drivers.
when it has started, right click on the screen, click on properties, go to the settings tab, set the colour quality to 16bi (medium), the screen resoloution to 800x600. Then click on the advanced button, go to the "monitor" tab and select about "60Hertz" for the refresh rate.
Restart the pc and you should get a display.
If that doesn't work, check in the BIOS that the primary display is set to what the monitor is plugged into, some BIOS's don't have this so don't worry if it's not there.
Let us know how you get on

And I just found out it was the Power settings that had been screwed totally, I also currently have the computer at my house so I know it's not the monitor.

The computer seems to be running ok now (touch wood).
