It's a very frustrating problem for me. I have 256 MB Ram running XP, and as desperate as I am to upgrade, I don't have any money.

The thing that makes it worse is that I only bought my PC a couple of years ago, and now most comps are being shipped with 512MB as standard. Why did they build my one with 256 lol!

It's fine running on 256MB's but you do notice some "Lag" from time to time when working with multiple programs and playing more high end games. I would kill for a 1GB set...(not literally)

256MB for games is low. I would definitely invest in some more RAM.

Hey PGH... even if you can't afford an upgrade right now-- there are things you can do:

Windows XP Home and Professional Service Pack 2 Service Configurations by Black Viper

This site lays it out in "stages"-- so you can try each level of tweaks to see what works best for you.

After you do that you can:
a) leave it that way
b) save that configuration as a "hardware profile" -- right click My Computer-- go to properties/hardware tab/hardware profiles at bottom.

this way you can switch back and forth -- use it in default mode for general use-- and "tweaked" mode for games. It won't make a huge difference... but it could make the lag slightly less pronounced.

XP's default configuration includes a lot of unnecessary stuff.

Thanks guys. Once I make the switch back to Windows XP I think I'll give them a try.
