Default Packard Bell makes "Creaking Noise"

Hello,

Recently my Packard Bell PC (which runs WinXP) is making what can only be described as "Creaking Noises" at random intervals. There is no patterns really but it happens when you leave the PC idle for say a couple minutes but also it just randomly makes the noise. If it has anything to do with it perhaps, I use CCleaner alot and it only really started after I installed that but im not sure that has anything to do with it.

The creaking normally lasts less than 30 seconds each time and happens maybe 3-6 times in 2-3 hours.

I know it may not seem big its just that if its anything serious id rather Nip it in the bud as it were.

Thank you.

I doubt it would be anything to do with ccleaner i have used that with no ill effects. But it sounds like a hardware issue maybe something is lose.

Wait until one of the hardware techs or another member comes along.

Hi ch_123,

This could mean that one of the fans is starting to seize. When the PC is idle, the CPU for example starts to cool down, and therefore your fans also start to run slower.

What you need to do is open the case of your PC, and find out exactly where the noise is coming from, most likely your CPU. Then use a brush, or preferably an air duster to get rid of the dust that is blocking your fans. The fans are located at the back of your PC, in the centre of your PC (CPU), and new graphics cards also have them as well.
