Default Please Help :(

I was listening to music and my pc froze. I restarted it and it only got to the windows loading screen, where it flashed and rebooted again. This happened time and time again, so I decided to use the built in system restore.
All is going fine but around 20% it comes up with an error : Problem extracting: then there are hundreds of directories.

After that I tried turning on my pc normally but now it wont even get to the loading screen and I get the error :Cannot Find \Windows\System32\hal.dll
Either missing or corrupt. It wont go past this.

I don't have a windows cd to use and I am not going to spend 100's of pounds to buy one.

I bought a cd called ultimate boot cd which is total bs because so far it hasn't been able to fix my pc.

I AM SO LOST. Someone please tell me or help me with this ultimate boot cd which I may not be using right.

I'm using a HP pc, amd athlon 3200+, 1 gig or ram, windows xp home, nvidia 6600gt.

Im typing this from a friends computer. Please help

Is it possible you could borrow a cd off a friend?.

Edit: i've found a hal.dll file what you could download but i'm not to sure on how to tell you how to install it i'm going to ask a staff member.

I would imagine that you place it in that directory. But wait until someone with a bit more knowledge does come along.
