Windows XP/2000 - [Fixed] system won't reboot posted in the Operating Systems forums; Hello and this is my first time here. I know a little about computers but not a whole bunch. My daughters toshiba laptop which is fairly new had a problem ...

Default [Fixed] system won't reboot

Hello and this is my first time here. I know a little about computers but not a whole bunch. My daughters toshiba laptop which is fairly new had a problem crashing and she tried to run the recovery applications disk that came with it and now when it boots up it hangs up and won't fully load her desktop.I have heard about starting up in safe mode but don't know how to do this.She really needs this for school.Can anyone here help me please

Hello faeb,

Welcome to pchf.

At what point during starup does the PC freeze?

To boot in safe mode, you can press F8 during startup, which will give you a set of boot options. Safe Mode is one of them.

During startup before the windows logo appears on the screen.

Basically as soon as you push the power button - keep pressing F8 (not holding it down) this way you wont miss it

thank you for replying I have tried to get safe mode but haven't been able to.the desktop loads but stops before the task bar loads and I can't access anything.i'll keep trying to get safe mode.

Since the recovery, has she been able to access Windows at all, or did the problem start later on?

she had a problem so she tried recovery.I just got safe mode up and now I get a box saying Explorer.EXE-application error the application failed to initialize properly (0x0000006). click ok to terminate the application.I clicked okay and now it's a black safe mode screen.

It's sounding like a really bad Software or virus problem



So if i understand right, you carn't get into Safemode fully?.
