Hi HelpPlease,

A system recovery will fix it - BUT IT WILL REMOVE ALL YOUR DATA
There are multiple ways to fix this with very simple step by step guides - first thing is you need your windows CD

All up, the process should take no more then an hour, even for someone who doesn't know much about computers, while following the guides.

It depends on the system recovery.

If it is a system recovery from inside windows - this will keep your data and put your system state to a previous point.

However, if this is a bootup option on a HP, Dell, Gateway, etc etc, this will remove everything from your computer and reinstall windows...nothing will be saved.

I once did a non-constructive Compaq Presario Windows recovery and it saved my files but will it fix my problem if i do the same thing.

To be honest...i have no idea, i've never actually fixed the NTDLR file missing error with nothing but recovery console off the XP cd. I'd suggest contacting HP (Compaq) and ask them if it will keep your data and fix your problem.

I'm leaning towards yes.
