Default Comp shuts down when installing updates from microsoft.

Hi!! I have a Sony Vaio Computer which I configured to auto-update. Recently I noticed that it shuts down prior to installing the updates it had downloaded. When it reboots Windows send an error report and this is what comes up (Error message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER). I have installed a new driver for the video adapter and put hardware acceleration to zero but still the computer shuts down when installing the updates. I have run different types of antivirus, antispyware, trojan remover all came out clean. I have SpeedFan in it and all the Fans are running good and the Temperatures are good. The last thing I haven't done yet, and perhaps don't need to, is putting a new video card in it....Note: The computer runs good until it updates and starts crashing....Any HELP would be greatly appreciated and THANK YOU in advance.

Hi manjoe, welcome to the PCHF!

That is an interesting problem to be sure.

What video card do you have?

Try installing these drivers here.

The Guru of 3D Download Section

They're not from ATI - but they are from a reputable source. It might fix your problem.

I installed that driver even though it's the same version from the one that I have downloaded from ATI site and my computer still crashes in the middle of the update process. I am going to do one thing about installing the updates one at a time and see if it shuts down the same. I will post the result later. Got to take a nap now. Thanks for the quick reply.

That will at least tell you which update is causing the issues - good idea.

If the drivers i linked you are the same ones, that same websute (guru3d.com) has hundreds of different versions of drivers for ATI...try a couple of older ones to see if you get the same response.
